About Us
Ransom County Driftskippers Snowmobile Club
The Ransom County Driftskippers Snowmobile Club was started in December of 1971 and was formerly called the Lisbon Driftskippers Snowmobile Club. The members changed the name to the Ransom County Driftskippers in 1994 to include other towns of Ransom County since many of the club members were from other neighboring towns. The name for the snowmobile club was chosen and the officers were elected at the second meeting on December 14, 1971. The 1971 officers were as follows:
PRESIDENT: Helmer Ronning
VICE PRESIDENT: Marvin Reinke
SECRETARY/TREASURER: Larry Larson
BOARD OF DIRECTORS: Jim Lyons, Ron Hilde, Bob Reinke & Lyle Milbrandt
MEMBERSHIP CHAIRMAN: Willis Bohlken Alternate: Erv Milbrandt
TRAIL CHAIRMAN: Don Flessness Alternate: Hjelmer Karlstad
RACE CHAIRMAN: Bill Huether Alternate: Willard Voss
PUBLICITY CHAIRMAN: Bob Bohlken Alternate: Manard Ordahl
RULES & REGULATIONS CHAIRMAN: Harlan Wilke Alternate: Erv Sahr
In 1994 the members of the Driftskippers joined Snowmobile North Dakota (SND) and in 1995 the club joined the Sheyenne Valley Trail Association (SVTA) and presently is still members of both organizations.
The Ransom County Driftskippers currently maintain about 66 miles of the Sheyenne Valley Trail and with out the support of the land owners and the help of the club members this would not be possible.
Throughout the last thirty-Seven years the Driftskippers have done a lot of fund raising events. Some of the places we have donated to are as follows: American Cancer Society, Donation of Rescue Equipment and a snowmobile to the Lisbon Fire Department, Benefits for Club Members, Lisbon Pool Project in 1977, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Food Pantry, Social Services, Hospice, Roger Maris 61 for 61, The Giving Tree for Ransom County, & Shop with Cop program for kids in Lisbon. The Club has made all of these donations possible by holding Fun Runs, Raffles, Benefit Suppers, Charity Rides, Truck Pulls, and Drag Races. The Club throughout the years has held many club trips, picnics, dinner banquets, and dances for the members.
The Driftskippers are a family oriented club that is very passionate about getting the youth involved in the sport of snowmobiling. Since the club began the Driftskippers have either hosted or sponsored a Snowmobile Safety Course for the young snowmobilers in the area and will continue to do so with the help of North Dakota Parks & Recreation providing the classes.
